Postdoctoral Fellowships for Emerging Scholars

Asia Health Policy Postdoctoral Fellowship
Awarded annually to one recent PhD undertaking original research on contemporary health or healthcare policy of high relevance to countries in the Asia-Pacific region, especially developing countries.

Awarded to one recent PhD undertaking original research on contemporary Japan. Disciplines include political science, economics, sociology, law, policy studies, and international relations.

Awarded to one recent PhD undertaking original research related to how Taiwan can meet the challenges and opportunities of economic, social, technological, environmental, and institutional adaptation in the coming decades.

Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellowship on Contemporary Asia
Awarded annually to two recent PhDs for research on contemporary political, economic, or social change in the Asia-Pacific region (including Northeast, Southeast, and South Asia), or topics in international relations and international political economy in the region.

Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) is a new initiative housed at Shorenstein APARC under the directorship of Professor Gi-Wook Shin. The Lab's initial research focuses on four themes: "Talent Flows and Development,” "Nationalism and Racism," "U.S.-Asia Relations," and "Democratic Crisis and Reform." The Lab offers one or two postdoctoral fellowships (two years in length) to begin in the fall quarter of the academic year.

China Policy Fellowship
Awarded annually to one mid-career to senior-level expert with extensive research experience on issues vital to U.S. China policy and influence in the policymaking process .

Contemporary Taiwan Visiting Fellowship
Awarded to one mid-career to senior-level expert with extensive experience studying contemporary Taiwan. The fellowship research focus is on issues related to how Taiwan can meet the challenges and opportunities of economic, social, technological, environmental, and institutional adaptation in the coming decades.

Lee Kong Chian National University of Singapore-Stanford Fellowship on Southeast Asia 
Awarded annually to one or two experts researching contemporary Southeast Asia. Candidates must have professional backgrounds and current, ongoing professional positions related to the social sciences or humanities. Fellows spend 3-4 months at both the National University of Singapore and Stanford.

Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) Visiting Fellowships
The Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) is a new initiative housed at Shorenstein APARC under the directorship of Professor Gi-Wook Shin. SNAPL accepts applications for visiting fellows from the Asia-Pacific region to begin in the fall quarter of the academic year. The lab seeks scholars and professionals with a PhD or a substantial record of professional achievement related to its two research themes.

Open to individuals who wish to dedicate time to research and writing relevant to Shorenstein APARC’s long-term interests. Visiting scholars are expected to provide their own means of support.

Awarded to Asian corporations and public-sector institutions that have become Shorenstein APARC global affiliate members and may nominate accomplished personnel to spend one academic year at the Center as Global Affiliate Visiting Fellows.  Administered by our Global Affiliates Program.

Research assistants work with assigned APARC faculty members on varied issues related to the politics, economies, populations, security, foreign policies, and international relations of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

We curate summer internships in Asia-Pacific nations or ones involving work on Asia-related research projects offered to Stanford students by campus units other than APARC. Some of these internships involve APARC faculty as mentors or advisors.
