Biography
Taiki Oki is a global affiliate visiting scholar at the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC) for 2025-26. Oki joined the Japan Patent Office (JPO) in 2018, where he worked as a patent examiner handling applications mainly in the fields of packaging machinery and paper-feeding machinery. In January 2023, he joined the Examination Policy Planning Office at JPO, where he was responsible for revising the domestic patent classification system and coordinating with foreign patent offices on the international patent classification revision project. In July 2024, he returned to work as a patent examiner, focusing on patent applications primarily in the fields of transmissions, bearings, joints, and paper-feeding machinery. While at APARC, he will be researching utilizations of patent and AI in corporate strategy at Silicon Valley companies.
