Summer Research Opportunity Position

Job: Summer Research Assistant

Salary: $5,120 - $6,400
Period: 8 weeks (July 2-August 24)

The Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford seeks highly motivated and dedicated undergraduate and master’s students for a full-time, paid, 8-week summer research assistants beginning in early July 2018.

RAs will engage in a new research project that examines talent flows in the Asia-Pacific region where countries, cities, and corporations are competing with each other to enhance their brain power by drawing on the skills of both their own citizens as well as those of foreigners.  This project takes an inter-disciplinary approach to examine the current flows of talent across national boundaries and to assess the efforts and policies of attracting transnational brains.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: summarizing scholarly literature, collecting and analyzing data, conducting interviews, and writing research briefs for principal investigators.

Eligibility and How to Apply

Undergraduate or master’s students from any major are eligible to apply; interdisciplinary backgrounds and Asian language skills (Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, etc.) are a plus, but not required. Applications from majors in the social sciences and humanities as well as the natural sciences and engineering fields will be welcomed.

This position requires strong social media skills, excellent verbal and written communication, time-management and organizational skills, and the ability to synthesize empirical, theoretical, and technical data from multiple sources.

Candidates must be currently enrolled at Stanford University as an undergraduate or master’s student. Candidates may be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or foreign nationals legally residing in the United States and must have a Social Security Number.
