The Korea Program conducts rigorous research on trends and challenges facing contemporary Korean society and culture, the future of the Korean Peninsula, and U.S.-Korea relations. Grounded in the social sciences, our work focuses on issues with major relevance to policymaking in the United States and Korea and considers these topics from regional and comparative perspectives.

Reengaging North Korea
The international community’s long-held aspiration for “complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization” of North Korea is highly unrealistic. This project examines the interests and policy environments of the Koreas and investigates ways to promote sustainable reengagement of the North.
We convene conferences and workshops that bring together prominent Korea scholars with policymakers and other experts to explore current developments affecting the Korean Peninsula, the U.S.-Korea alliance, and a strategic vision for Northeast Asia. Our colloquium series afford members of the Stanford community and the general public the opportunity to engage with esteemed political figures and scholars.
