Geostrategic rivalry and economic interdependence coexist in uneasy balance between the United States and China. Ambassador Fu Ying, the chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, spoke at an event titled "Rebuilding Trust: China-U.S. Relations" at the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC) in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies on May 10, 2016. Fu analyzed key strands in the United States’ perceptions of China and China’s perceptions of the United States, marked as they are by desire for closer cooperation and intensifying distrust.
