Biography

Miho Fujisawa is a global affiliate visiting scholar at the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC) for 2026-27. She joined the Japan Patent Office (JPO) in 2019, where she worked as a patent examiner handling applications mainly in the fields of e-commerce and bioinformatics. In January 2024, she joined the General Coordination Division at JPO, where she was responsible for managing the fee structure for patent fees and the patent fee reduction/exemption program. In July 2025, she returned to work as a patent examiner, focusing on patent applications primarily in the fields of management systems, including AI-related business inventions. While at APARC, she will be researching how intellectual property systems, particularly patents and copyrights, are adapting to the rapid advancement of generative AI.
