Biography

Col. Myong-jin Bae is a global affiliate visiting scholar at the Walter H . Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC) for 2025-26. He graduated from the Korea Military Academy (KMA) and has 23 years of experience in the Republic of Korea Army. He primarily served as the artillery officer along the border, and from 2019 to 2022, he held positions as a battalion commander and staff officer in one of the Army's most combat-ready mechanized units. In addition, he served at Army Headquarters, where he was responsible for personnel policy initiatives focused on officer recruitment and improving service conditions. His academic background includes a bachelor's degree in weapons engineering and a master's degree in anthropology with a focus on French-language studies and culture. He also completed an English instructor training course for NATO personnel at a Canadian language school. While at APARC, he will study internal marketing strategies aimed at reducing turnover by enhancing job satisfaction among highly skilled personnel.
