APARC Support
The Asia imperative
Asia plays an increasingly important role on the global stage. In our interconnected world, the diverse economic, political, and social factors that shape Asia’s future impact all of us.
Why Shorenstein APARC
We have entered a long-anticipated age in which Asian nations have emerged as major world powers. The striking economic growth and technological advancement across the Asia-Pacific, however, are accompanied by shifting political balance, expanded military capacities, and rising threats to well-being, regional stability, and global order.
With its impact exceeding far beyond its territorial expanse, Asia is critical to U.S. and international interests. We must invest in building a solid foundation of education, knowledge, and dialogue about the challenges to and prospects for the future of the region and U.S.-Asia relations. Shorenstein APARC has been leading this charge for over 35 years.
Since our founding in 1983, we have pursued and published interdisciplinary, policy-relevant, Asia-Pacific–focused research; supported and mentored hundreds of Asia scholars, practitioners, and students; and engaged countless members of the public and U.S and Asian decision makers in intellectual exchange and frank discussion of complex Asia topics through APARC-organized events at Stanford and internationally.
It takes significant resources to carry out this work—resources committed by friends and supporters who share our conviction that rigorous research on the political, economic, and social developments of the Asia-Pacific and deep engagement with the region are vital to our future.
Together we have achieved a great deal. But we need your help to continue the momentum. We hope you join us.
