Estimates of the number of lives lost in the tsunamis that swept across Southeast Asia to the shores of Africa have risen to 44,000, with the toll expected to rise still higher. The United Nations has said the relief effort may be the costliest in history. How have children been affected by the disaster? What about local economies that have been wiped out?
