Accepting Applications

January 09, 2017 - February 07, 2017

The U.S.-Asia Security Initiative of the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC), working through the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies Global Policy Internship Program, has established summer internships at The Asia Foundation in Jakarta, Indonesia and in Washington D.C. The FSI Global Policy Internship Program offers students an opportunity to engage in the international policy world through an off-campus internship.

The Asia Foundation (TAF) is a nonprofit international development organization committed to improving lives across developing Asia. TAF works to strengthen governance, empower women, expand economic opportunity, increase environmental resilience, and promote regional cooperation.

The intern in Indonesia will work with the Peduli program, a Government of Indonesia program funded by the Australian government and managed by TAF that works with Indonesia’s most marginalized communities. The intern will help document a case study on policy change at the local level over the last year of programing.

The intern in D.C. will work with the core team on researching topics such as the role of civil society in development, U.S. policy on countering violent extremism, and/or on regional and cross-border issues.

Students can apply here. Applications are due Feb. 7, 2017.

Karl Eikenberry, the director of the U.S.-Asia Security Initiative said, "We're very excited about the summer intern opportunities The Asia Foundation is providing for Stanford undergraduates in Washington, D.C. and Indonesia this next summer. We are also exploring opportunities to further increase summer internships in the Asia-Pacific region, including China and India, and in the U.S. Congress, over the next few years."
